Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump issued a controversial statement in the wake of the terror attack in San Bernardino, California. The attack was perpetrated by a radicalized couple who went on a shooting spree using high powered firearms. The couple killed 14 people and injured 22 others before they got killed in a shootout against the police. The attack is the second deadliest mass shooting in California’s history. Trump said that to prevent a similar incident from happening again, the United States should block all Muslims from entering its borders. The billionaire TV personality believes that not only immigrants should be banned but also Muslim tourists.
Trump says his statement is based on the reports of Pew Research. Pew Research conducted a survey on Muslims regarding their opinion about terror attacks in America and their findings are as follows:
• 25% of the respondents believed that violence against Americans in the United States is a justifiable act of jihad (Muslim Holy War).
• 51% believe that Muslims in the United States should be able to choose to be governed by the federal government or by Sharia Law. Sharia is the most extreme of all Muslim laws as it advocates the purging of infidels or non-believers. Sharia also treats women as mere possessions of men.

Trump says that the Pew Research survey results just prove that Muslims from all over the globe has an inexplicable hatred towards Americans. America, therefore, should bar Muslims from stepping into US soil to prevent the said hatred from reaching the American people. Trump further explained that until we should keep from welcoming Muslims until we understand where this particular hatred is coming from. He adds that this is a necessary step towards realizing his dream of making America great again.
Majority of Americans disagree with Trump and accuse him of being an Islamophobe. President Barack Obama said that we should not hate Muslims simply because of their faith. He adds that there are more than a billion Muslims in the world and most of them are peaceful. We should not let the acts of a few individuals affect are view of the entire Muslim faith. Even among Republicans, there are a lot who disagree with Trump’s views.

Obama calls for unity in the wake of the attacks. He reminds everyone that Muslims are our brothers. We should treat them as family and not as enemies. The federal government will do everything in its power to understand how in just a couple of years, a US citizen has been radicalized to the point of committing mass murder against his community. Obama insists that the government is taking steps to prevent such tragedy from happening again but not of these steps involved the banning of Muslim immigrants and tourists.
