Partial Reopening of Brussels Airport Departure Lounge Mark Brussels Healing

Brussels-victims

The whole world mourned the casualties and victims of the Brussels terror attack on March 22, 2016. Two suicide bombers detonated themselves in the Brussels Airport resulting to the deaths of 16 people and major damage to the building. Fortunately, on May 8th, about a month and a half later, the Brussels Airport has finally reopened a part of its departure lounge. This event is symbolic. It shows that Brussels is ready for healing and the people are moving on. On a related note, the Brussels Metro Station, where the third suicide bomber attacked, reopened April 25. The station attack resulted to 20 deaths.

Manhunt Not Stopping

Brussels authorities are aware that catching the culprits will greatly help in the healing process. Hence, the government has no plans of easing on its efforts to track down and capture anyone who may be linked to the twin bombings. ISIS has claimed credit for the terror attacks and Belgium authorities have stepped up efforts in working together with other international organizations to help improve security and prevent the same things from happening again.

Ossama Krayem

Raids and Arrests

Massive operations were conducted all over Europe such as France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. Dozens of suspects have been arrested and charged. The most notable arrest was that of Ossama Krayem, a Swedish citizen who was also charged on the November 2015 terror attacks in Paris. Prosecutors claim that Krayem played a major part in the planning of both attacks. He has been traveling to avoid arrest for months until he was finally apprehended in Germany. Culprits being caught gives victims and the rest of Belgium relief. The more of these terrorists are arrested, the less the chances of ISIS pulling off another successful attack.

Global Expression of Support

What really helped in Brussels recovery is the overwhelming support expressed by people from all over the world. After news of the suicide bombings spread, support began pouring in. Government officials, royalties, organization heads, and ordinary people all offered sympathy while also openly denouncing the senseless acts. One of the primary goals of the attacks was to divide the people of the world. Terrorists want us to fight amongst ourselves so they can have easier time influencing us. However, instead of the Brussels attack dividing us, they brought the world closer together. The world’s show of unity makes it easier for Brussels to heal.

The reopening of the departure lounge of the Brussels Airport signifies Brussels’ resiliency and that it will not let terror win. The people of Belgium will heal and stand up again, stronger than before. Let us keep praying for the victims. Our prayers will greatly help them.
